Your first year in town? Here are some episodes of The 812 to orient you to Bloomington

Welcome to Bloomington! Our show is a public-affairs interview podcast about our local government(s). Episodes come out three days a week and are about 35 minutes long. This Orientation to The 812 page has a few back episodes to get you oriented to the city you now live in, and includes interviews with:

  • Mayor Kerry Thomson, on her journey to becoming mayor and on the priorities of her administration;
  • District 6 City Councilmember Sydney Zulich, who represents much of the population on or near the IU campus),
  • At-Large County Councilmember Geoff McKim, who explains how county government affects you;
  • Shatoyia Moss, now Director of the Department of Community and Family Resources, whom we interviewed when she was in her capacity as the department’s Safe and Civil City director;
  • John Connell, the GM of Bloomington Transit, on the city’s bus system and its expansion plans;
  • and Hank Duncan, the city’s Bicycle and Pedestrian Coordinator, about the city’s non-car transportation infrastructure and plans for its expansion.

Interviews take up most of each episode of The 812, and start about 4 minutes in. We think that all our episodes are interesting and revealing of our community, but we hope these will give you a good start to your new home. Add The 812 to your podcast feed today!
